FAQ

WhatsApp API pricing in Sri Lanka: common questions

How much does the WhatsApp Business API cost in Sri Lanka?

Two parts: a Bloomwire subscription from LKR 8,500 a month, plus Meta's per-message fees. Since 1 July 2025 Meta charges per delivered template message, not per 24-hour conversation. From 1 October 2026 Sri Lanka has its own rate card, with indicative list rates of about US$0.073 (LKR 24) for marketing and about US$0.002 (LKR 0.66) for utility and authentication messages.

How much does Meta charge for a WhatsApp marketing message in Sri Lanka?

Indicatively about US$0.073 per delivered marketing message, which is roughly LKR 24 at LKR 331 per US dollar. Marketing is the most expensive category, so promotional broadcasts are where most of a Sri Lankan business's Meta bill comes from.

How much do utility and authentication messages cost in Sri Lanka?

Indicatively about US$0.002 each, roughly LKR 0.66. Utility messages are transactional updates such as order confirmations, delivery updates and payment receipts. Authentication messages are one-time passcodes. Meta reduced both rates for Sri Lanka from 1 October 2026.

Are WhatsApp service conversations free?

Replies to a customer who messages you first are service messages. Meta lets you send the first 1,000 service messages per phone number each month free, and charges a small per-message rate above that from 1 October 2026. Utility templates sent inside an open customer service window are free.

What changed for WhatsApp pricing in Sri Lanka on 1 October 2026?

Sri Lanka moved out of Meta's Rest of Asia Pacific region and now has its own rate card. Utility and authentication rates came down, a new authentication-international rate was added, and service messages above the free monthly allowance became chargeable.

Does Bloomwire add a markup on Meta's message fees?

No. Bloomwire passes Meta's per-message fees through at zero markup. You pay the Bloomwire plan fee, plus Meta's list rate for each delivered message.

What is the difference between marketing, utility, authentication and service messages?

Marketing messages promote products, offers or events. Utility messages deliver information about a transaction the customer already made. Authentication messages deliver one-time passcodes. Service messages are replies inside the 24-hour window after a customer writes to you. Meta decides the category from the template content, so a promotional message labelled as utility will be reclassified and billed as marketing.

How do I estimate my monthly WhatsApp messaging bill?

Multiply each category's delivered messages by its rate, deduct the free service allowance, then add your Bloomwire plan fee. The calculator on this page does that for you, and the worked examples below show three typical Sri Lankan businesses.

How do I get the WhatsApp Business API in Sri Lanka?

You need a Meta business account, a phone number that is not already used on WhatsApp, and an official provider. Bloomwire is an Official Meta Tech Provider: we handle business verification, number registration and template approval, then give your team a shared inbox, AI agent and API access.

Are these prices final?

They are indicative list rates, last checked on 20 October 2026. Meta can change its rate card, and exact billed rates follow Meta's live Sri Lanka rate card. Ask Bloomwire for a quote and we will confirm current figures in writing.
